Great Missouri Treasure Hunt

Please join the Missouri State Archives in the Great Missouri Treasure Hunt. In this statewide contest, you are invited to explore the rich collections of historic records held by state and local institutions.  You can win prizes by sharing what you discover about the history of your family or community. It’s easy to start on MissouriDigitalHeritage.com, where you can search more than six million documents.  For advanced treasure hunting, you can visit the Missouri State Archives, local libraries and historical societies across the state, or even search your family’s heirlooms. To enter, you can submit stories, photos, scans of documents, or videos in three categories: Family History, Civil War History and Missouri History. Prizes include a hotel stay near the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, a family portrait session using Civil War-era tintype photography, numerous books on Missouri history, preservation supplies, games, digitization of old home movies, and a spot in the 2011-2012 Official Manual of the State of Missouri. During the contest, the Great Missouri Treasure Hunt Facebook page will feature weekly prizes, treasure hunting tips, and the best of the State Archives.  You can also check out the contest’s Flickr photo group or the State Archives Twitter feed of “This Day in Missouri History” events. Complete rules and entry form are available online at GreatMissouriTreasureHunt.com.  Please contact us at treasurehunt@sos.mo.gov or (573) 522-1009 if you need more information. Grab your magnifying glass, dust off those old maps, and get ready to make history! Sponsors include the Friends of the Missouri State Archives, Arcadia Publishing, FamilySearch, Federation of Genealogical Societies, Home Movie Depot, Missouri Life Magazine, Richmond Alternative Photography, University of Missouri Press, and Weider History Group, with additional support provided by Family Tree Magazine, Hollinger Metal Edge, University Products, and Greg Olson, the author of The Ioway in Missouri.
