Missouri Historical Records Grants

The Missouri State Archives, on behalf of the Missouri Historical Records Advisory Board, has been awarded a $68,000 grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to provide funding for historical records preservation and access projects throughout the state and offer a series of training workshops. The vast majority of the grant, $56,800, will be used to fund records projects through a competitive regrant process. The regrant program, commonly known as the Missouri Historical Records Grant Program (MHRGP), is open to all of the state’s public and private records repositories that care for documents of significant historical value. This includes historical, ethnic, and religious societies; museums; libraries; colleges and universities; and local government entities. MHRGP funds may be used for projects that preserve and provide access to historical records, including hiring consultants, purchasing archival supplies and equipment, surveying and describing collections, and utilizing conservation services. Each project is eligible for up to $7,500 in grant funds. Applications related to architecture and building, post- World War II immigrant communities, small and non-affiliated religious organizations, and transportation are encouraged. To learn more about the MHRGP and download an application, please visit www.sos.mo.gov/archives/mhrab/guidelines.asp or go to www.mhrab.org and click on Missouri Historical Records Grant Program. Applications are due October 1, 2010. For additional information, contact Shelly Croteau at (573) 751-4303 or mhrgp@sos.mo.gov.
