Free hands-on workshop on the basics of preservation of historic objects. Topics covered will include: how to inventory, catalog and document collections; basic tools to get you started in caring for your collection; how to set up environmental monitoring of temperature and relative humidity; pest management; basic materials recommended for collections care; where to find materials; how to prepare for an emergency; and what does a curator do.
Workshop participants will receive two reference books on collections care and documentation, a Salvage and Response Wheel, a resource packet, and a booklet with sample preservation materials appropriate for history collections care.
