Cultural institutions – like much of the rest of world – had to move to remote work for part of the COVID-19 pandemic. This included student internships. This program will outline the advantages (including advantages of offering remote opportunities like this outside of the pandemic) and disadvantages of remote internships and will offer a set of best practices – for students, for academic programs, and for host sites – as they engage in remote internships. The information presented here comes out of a working group from the National Council on Public History and is the culmination of more than a year's worth of discussion by that group, which was co-chaired by the program presenter Elyssa Ford, Ph.D.
